Halloweeeeen- Cupcake Hijinks 3

The third and final Halloween Cupcakes that I made for a party last Thursday were these yummy masterpieces: Chocolate Graveyard Cupcakes with Biscuit Headstones.

Here is the Recipe...

The Cakes:

(Makes 15 Cupcakes)
64g cocoa powder
4 fl oz. boiling water
4 fl oz. milk
125g butter
268g sugar
192g flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
3 medium eggs

Preheat oven to 170.
Cream the butter and sugar really well, add vanilla and mix again. Add one egg at a time and stir in- don't worry if this makes the mixture look a little curdled.
In a separate bowl, stir boiling water into cocoa powder. Pour in milk- mixture should cool as a result.
Mix all remaining dry ingredients in another bowl with a balloon whisk.
Add a third of cocoa liquid to the creamed butter and sugar, mix, then add a third of the dry ingredients. Keep mixing, alternating adding cocoa and adding flour mix until all ingredients are combined.
Pour into cupcake cases and bake for 18-20 mins or until cakes spring back when touched.

Biscuit Gravestones:

I used this recipe to make the dough(I had lots leftover)but instead of using cutters, I used a knife to cut out gravestone shapes.

Once they were cooked and had cooled, I used a scrunch up piece of kitchen roll to dab black food colouring over each biscuit to get the mottled stony effect. I then iced 'RIP' on them with black icing.

Zombie Hands:

The hands were made from white chocolate and I used the same method as I had previously with the cobwebs.
Once they were set I painted them lightly with yellow and green food colourings and added red colouring to the tips of the fingers.

To create the cupcakes, I spread Chocolate Buttercream on top, sprinkled this with crumbled Oreo biscuits then added both a gravestone and a zombie hand before finishing with a little green icing for a touch of grass.

And Voila...Spooky Graveyard scenes!
