13(ish) DIY Gifts for Mother's Day

With Mothering Sunday almost upon us, I thought I'd take a break from Finger Knitting (What a shiny new obsession that is...) to get some inspiration for Homemade Presents you can make bake and create for your dear old Mom...
I will indeed be whipping up something for my very special Mother (Look out for that!) but until I get my bum in gear, here's a look at the some nifty ideas for that oh-so-special present from all over the interweb...

1. Kitchen Art
 This framed utensil piece from Better Homes & Gardens is an easy gift to make and will certainly spruce up your Mom's kitchen. The perfect gift if she enjoys baking up a storm! See the tutorial here..

2. Homemade Lemon Soap
Homemade soap is always a winner an this lemon one looks like it smells heavenly. Find out how to make Crystal(@ A Pumpkin & A Princess)'s citrus scented soap here!
Or if your mom's not a lemon kind of gal, try one of these aromatic alternatives...

3. Birdhouse Shelf
This birdhouse shelf from Suzys Artsy Craftsy Sitcom is so cute and looks like such fun to make! It would be a great idea for kids to make for their mom, they could do a house each! 
Speaking of birdhouses....
These floral ones (top) from Yvestown would dress up the dullest of walls (-Plus the tutorial comes with the template) and Torie Jayne's washi tape collection (bottom) are pretty and practical with their hook for hanging keys!

4. Stamped Scarf
This patterned scarf is printed with (would you believe it) celery, (no, really) and you can find the tutorial on A Beautiful Mess
It's not the only tutorial featured on the site that would be perfect for Mother's Day. Wow your Mom with this Geometric photo art or make her this quirky Recipe book...

5. Wall Hanging
This stylish wall hanging from Frame Fanatic is surprisingly thrifty to make. . . It's created with a cereal box and some paint. . . I know right?!
If you like the idea of making a gift from household 'rubbish' you could try these mosaic tins from Instructables or some ever popular toilet roll art (This one is from Croissant and Lavender)

6. Cupcake Bouquet
If your Mom has as much of a sweet tooth as mine, you can't go wrong with some homemade treats. This Cupcake Bouquet tutorial from 52 Kitchen Adventures shows you how to turn the simplest of cakes into a Mother's-day-worthy masterpiece.

7. Family Tree Tray
Jill made this Family Tree Tray and it would be a great gift for the family matriarch on Mother's Day. If you're not so good with a paintbrush, there's loads of other ways you can make a family tree gift..

8. Trinket Dishes
Homemade trinket dishes are small but special and you can be as creative as you want to be. This collection are by Lisa Storm (for Fiskars). and are made with clay. Check out the tutorial here.

9. Cat Planters
These DIY planters om Bru DIY would make an extra cute gift for any cat lover- see the tutorial here.
Planters in general go down a treat, The guys at Poppytalk Has compiled a list of some great tutorials (Which was where I found the moggies above.)

10. Paper Bouquet
Bouquets of flowers are lovely but they soon need to be thrown away. Oh Happy Day's Paper flowers will last a good deal longer!

11. Tin Art
Leslie Manlapig (for Handmade Charlotte) shows you what you can achieve with some tin and some sharpies- This tin art would make a fabulous gift for any mom to hang on her wall. See the tutorial here

12. Fabric Mirror
This Fabric framed mirror by Hey Homewrecker is girly and chic and would make a lovely present for a stylish lady of the house...
If you want to use up your fabric scraps on something a little smaller, try covering some books with pretty colours (Check out Two Twenty One's tutorial for a how-to) or make some of Martha Stewart's Fabric tissue cases!
